Songs that Reconnect

When we sing, we drop into our hearts and our bellies and we tune into the wondrous human capacity to sound melodiously.

And when we say melodiously, we do not necessarily mean to say prodigiously, for everyone who has a voice can sing.

Regularly for the last 3 years Rachael Duffy and I have been holding circles of group song and ritual under the name Songs that Reconnect. These circles provide a space for community to come together. We blossom when we voice our emotions, overcoming the shyness and other fears that keep us back from being heard and being seen.

Singing gives our feelings and our motives a new liminal and expansive meaning, like many other forms of art that reach beyond intellectual prose. In singing we are creating life, in each new song, each new constellation of participants, an unrepeatable experience of sound creates part of a new story.

Singing is such a valuable tool to ignite and connect the will and the power of people working towards the Great Turning around the world, which is why we feel blessed to offer this to you.

We have borrowed and created songs and rituals – inspired by the Work that Reconnects – with which we can connect as a human collective, some are ancient community and ritual pagan songs, some are “Rainbow” songs, medicine songs, or songs of our own creation or created and shared by fellow musicians. We also play with other languages, rounds or with various voices or improv sounding.

In the Songs that Reconnect we journey around the spiral of the WTR, through its 4 stages. You can read more about the Spiral here and see some shortened examples of our songs hereunder.

During each event, we shall guide you through the spiral. In between the songs we include short rituals that create a somatic connection to each stage and that have been inspired by the Work that Reconnects or by our personal experience as facilitators of deep ecology. These may be meditations, group movement, sharing or blessings for example.

We hold them at indoor small event venues or at private homes, so if you are interested in hosting please do contact us. Sometimes we also incorporate these sessions as part of longer retreats or organise Songs that Reconnect outdoors. We provide song sheets, which are unique to each event.

Please bring your shakers and other instruments if you like. Male voices are very very welcome, as we often need more of them! Children may join upon request, though the format is intended for an adult audience.

Thank you, Joanna
