July/August 2022

Workshops – Retreats – Songs that Reconnects and Films that Reconnect….

Songs that Reconnect

Join us in Scarborough for our next “Songs that Reconnect” gathering on 10th August, from 6 (arrive 5:45 please) to 8 pm. Contact us for address.

We use a WhatsApp broadcast list for our local Songs That Reconnect, so please send us your phone number to 0834165572 (Joanna@Gaia Speaking) and save the number if you want to be informed about our monthly song circles.

Opening to song truly allows us to reconnect to our body, our feelings and our belonging to the greater ecology that we are part of. There is no need to know how to sing. This is an invitation for your voice to be heard, in which ever way.

Films that Reconnect

Our next Films that Reconnect documentary film “Screening & Sharing”session will be at Camel Rock, in Scarborough, on 18th August 2022 from 6 to 8 pm

Many of us take our ocean for granted. Yet it provides half of the air we breathe, helps to regulate our weather patterns, provides food and medicine, and is the source of income for millions of people around the world.

The ocean is home to a delicate ecosystem, playing a crucial role in keeping our planet in symbiotic balance. This balance is at risk and the ocean needs our help

Join us for an evening focussed on ‘Coastal Deep Ecology’ including a screening of ‘Ours Not Mine’, a documentary detailing the current situation as regards the industrial-scale mining that is threatening ocean ecology and livelihoods on the West Coast. After the film we will have the opportunity to share ideas on how we can protect, interact and ‘interbe’ with our coastlines with experts from the field.

Tickets are on sale on Quicket.

Re-Generation Workshop

For a Growing Generation of Resilient, Connected Earthlings

On 26th July, Joanna Tomkins and Rachael Millson will facilitate a workshop at the Scarborough Environmental Group (SEG) Eco Club. We invite all children from 10 to 15 to join (any donations will go to SEG), from any other community also. It is not easy for parents to know how to discuss planetary emergency with their children and Gaia Speaking would like to assist with the planting of the seeds for this important family and community conversation. We will have a Q&A, a sharing circle and we shall engage in some movement and song.

The SEG Youth Club, run by local eco-warriors Hannah, Emily and Alina gather on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5 pm at the Bio Dynamic Centre next to the Scarborough Community Centre and Park. (opposite the Village Hub).

SEG is a very active ecological organisation in Scarborough, leading by example in the Deep South. The SEG Stars, Volunteers and the main SEG movers and shakers of the Earth – we know who they are! – are pioneering ways to support nature by observing and acting on our behavioural cycles around consumption, recycling, gardening, food growing, communication, pets, … and to create true sharing of daily life, ideas, projects and strengths…. Here above picture of Kelson and Clare with a group of children from Masiphumelele and a Saturday morning eco talk at the centre.
